Coleslaw.

Easter Sunday’s near and so, have you planned yet what to serve on your Easter table? As for us, we don’t normally celebrate it with bountiful meals but instead we go out, let the little one enjoy Easter activities for kids then have a special lunch or dinner in our favorite resto. But I’m planning to make my special coleslaw which I haven’t prepared for quite some time now. The husband suddenly missed it and so with his help on Easter morning (by rinsing the cabbage and carrots with water from the faucets), we’ll come up with an Easter coleslaw.

This is how I usually do it:

ColeslawColeslaw

Ingredients:
2 cups finely shredded cabbage
1 cup thinly sliced carrots
1/3 cup crushed pineapple, well drained
1/4 cup raisins
1/4 cup white sugar

For dressing:
3/4 cup mayonnaise
1/4 cup thick whipping cream

Procedure:
1. Put all ingredients in a bowl.
2. Mix well and chill before serving.

Krispy Kreme Egg-Shaped Donuts

Aside from Krispy Kreme’s usual delighting offerings of confections, check out their daily deal starting March 29. It’s the time of the year again when boys and girls fill up their Easter baskets with goodies. But instead of real eggs, Krispy Kreme came up with these egg-citing limited edition egg-shaped donut treats. Available in chocolate variants of Hershey’s Dark Chocolate, Hershey’s Cookies and Crea, Peanut Butter and Kreme, Snickers classic, Chocolate Custard Filled, Chocolate Kreme Filled, Cinnamon Apple, Caramel Kreme Crunch, Chocolate Iced with Sprinkles and a lot more. It’s just Php 365 per dozen.

My son loves donuts and this is something he can look forward to on Easter Sunday after having our Easter activities.

Las Vegas Wedding Invitation.

I got a wedding invitation the other day from one of my closest friends who’s based in the United States. Their union will be celebrated in three weeks time. These are the times when you really can call an airmail a snail mail because the transit is as slow or even slower than a snail. I would love to be in attendance and see their romantic union, however, it was such a short notice that I would not be able to process the necessary Visa regulations in time for her wedding day.

Nevertheless, I know that it will be one majestic wedding as the reception will be held in a luxurious Las Vegas hotel. I’ll just wait for their photos and videos which hopefully, they’ll upload on the web right away. I have always been wanting to see Nevada and experience Las Vegas Holidays. This could have been my first ever adventure but it’s just sad that time is not on my side. Hopefully, I will see them when I get the chance to fly to US on December for some Holidays Vegas adventure. If they’re not still pregnant by then, perhaps, they could join me to spend Holidays to Las Vegas. I’m certain that it will be a one of kind Holiday. So for their upcoming wedding, I just wish them both congratulations and all the best in their married life.

“Cook and Brew: Life, Spice and Everything Nice”

I’m looking at my blog archives now and I’m pleased to know that it’s been a year since I put up this food blog of mine. I went over and revisited my first ever post. I’m reminded of the humble beginnings and how I came to give such a blog title. To recap, this is how “Cook and Brew: Life, Spice and Everything Nice” came about:

Wikipedia defines:
Cooking is the process of preparing food by applying heat, selecting, measuring and combining of ingredients in an ordered procedure for producing safe and edible food.”

Brewing specifically refers to the process of steeping, such as with tea and water, and extraction, usually through heat.”

Food is any nourishing substance that is eaten, drunk, or otherwise taken into the body to sustain life, provide energy, promote growth, etc.”

Life is the general or universal condition of human existence.”

Spice is something that gives zest.”

Nice is pleasing; agreeable; delightful.”

In a nutshell, online abode is a food blog that discusses spices and the nice ingredients needed to cook and brew a delightful life.

I primarily set it up to house my would be cooking adventures and misadventures once we transfer to our own home.  But I have also enlisted already here my first few attempts in cooking and you’d be able to find them in my archives. For the mean time since my MIL does the cooking, I’m researching and compiling  Quick and Easy Recipes that I find over the web and food magazines.

Further, as I’m into digital scrapbooking, I’m planning to digiscrap my first ever recipe book. It’ll be a compilation of my favorite, tried and tested and future recipes that I will try. I’m thinking to make it a more personalized one by including a photo of my very own trial. Thankfully, we have our Nikon D60 to help document my projects. Let’s see how will I go about this project. Hopefully, I’ll accomplish the first book this year. Yes, I’m planning to make a library of my recipe books. For the mean time, I’ll still collate ideas and continue to collect more recipes from various resources.

This blog will still continue to house all of my thoughts that are related to cooking, food thoughts and all other things that add spice to life.  Cheers and here’s hoping to more years of food blogging.
